How can companies use liquid funds to get higher returns on their cash?



Most small companies keep their cash in current accounts that earn them zero interest.

 

Also, if there is a lot of cash left in the current account, companies often tend to spend that, which may not be useful for the long-term growth of the enterprise. Since money in current accounts don’t earn any returns, so financial advisors often advise these smaller companies to park their excess cash in liquid funds, which at present are giving returns in high single digit. Usually, anything more than what will meet the cash flow requirement of 1-2 months can be parked in liquid funds.

 

Companies can even put in place an SIP in liquid or liquid-plus funds so that small amounts that go out of the company’s current account do not pinch, and at the same time create a corpus for large business needs in the future.
